New to Domains at BIGNAMES:// Domain Names & Web Hosting

Let us guide you through choosing the right domain name for you.
Domain names are used by companies and individuals alike. They provide an easy
way to find your website on the Internet. If we didn't have domain names, websites
would be found using a series of numbers and dots called an "IP" address. A typical
IP address looks something like this: 123.12.123.1 For obvious reasons, this is not ideal, and as such we use domain names.

Domain names may only consist of letters, numbers and the hyphen symbol '-'.
An example of a domain name would look something like this: your-company-name.co.uk. The www. at the beginning is not part of the domain name.

A record of all domain names are held at a number of international organisations to make sure that no two are identical. This is demonstrated if you try typing in a popular name (such as mcdonalds.com) in the checker box below.

Domain names such as mcdonalds.com were registered a long time ago, and are no longer available for registration. However, many smaller companies and individuals are still able to register their very own domain name. Use the checker box below to check if your desired domain name is still available.

WWW.

You can perform as many checks as you like and you are under no obligation to register anything. If your domain name is no longer available, try using the hyphen symbol between words. For example, if your company name is Bob's Builders, and bobsbuilders.co.uk is no longer available - try using different alternatives of that name, for instance bobs-builders.co.uk or bob-builders-ltd.co.uk The combinations are almost endless.
